Lecture Series: Ellie Hinkle, "Union Printers Home"

Lectures on the Second Tuesday of each Month at 4pm
225 N Gate Blvd
Colorado Springs, CO 80921
US

Ellie Hinkle was born and raised in Colorado Springs and has had a lifelong passion for its local history. After receiving a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Willamette University (Salem, OR) and an MLIS in Archives Management from Simmons University (Boston, MA), she returned to her hometown and began working as the Director of History & Archives for the Union Printers Home in 2021.
The Home was dedicated in 1892 as a care facility for members of the International Typographical Union, and continued to serve in a similar capacity until it closed in 2020. It was purchased by a group of local investors in 2021 to preserve its history and redevelop the property into a vibrant new mixed-use neighborhood. Ellie's presentation will detail the history of the Home and give a brief glimpse into some of the plans for the future Printers Hill.

Excellent museum. Highly recommended. Great 10AM tour guide. Turned on many machines that made me travel back in time. They have super large machines from the 1880s or so, the one I appreciated most was the Edison Dynamo.
