Legacy Gifts

Legacy Giving - Make A Difference

Bequests

Consider leaving a bequest to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry by naming our organization as a beneficiary – or even a contingency (secondary) beneficiary – in your will or trust.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is simply a gift you make to WMMI through your will which indicates your desire to leave something of value to the Museum and its future work. A charitable bequest can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage of the value of your total estate, a gift of stock, life insurance, or in some cases, even real estate.

Donors wishing to designate a gift to WMMI in their will or trust should use the following language:

“I wish to give (choose appropriate statement): a specific dollar amount; percentage of the estate; or (specific number) shares of (specified) security to the Western Museum of Mining & Industry, 225 North Gate Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80921, Attention Legacy Coordinator. The contact number is 719.488.0880.”

Savings or Retirement Accounts

Consider naming the Western Museum of Mining & Industry as a beneficiary or contingent beneficiary in your retirement account, savings or checking account, pension plan, or life insurance policy.

Although most people intend to leave their assets to family, perhaps, for example, you might consider leaving a small percentage of your IRA to help WMMI continue its mission. In most cases, you can simply name WMMI (use our entire name) as a beneficiary.

Do I need an attorney for this purpose?
This can be accomplished without an attorney. Simply contact your IRA custodian, bank, or insurance representative for a beneficiary designation form – of course, should things change, this type of gift is easily changed. And, if you have questions, we always recommend consulting with your professional advisors.

Use of Gifts

WMMI will work closely with you to identify the purpose of your gift as well as help identify areas where a need for help exists. We want to make the need align with your interests. Generally, contributions made through a will or trust are designated to WMMI’s unrestricted fund. However, you may specify a purpose for your gift.

Notification and Recognition

We look forward to recognizing you as a member of WMMI’s Legacy Society! Please let us know of your gifting intentions so we can acknowledge your generosity. And of course, we will respect your wishes should you prefer we not announce your gift.

Thank you for your interest and consideration!

Remember, your thoughtful legacy gift helps WMMI continue to fulfill its mission.
