The mission of the WMMI is to educate the public about the history and continuing contributions of mining, ranching and other supporting industries in the American West.


Indoor Exhibits at WMMI

Experience a unique and interactive museum designed to educate the public about the importance, and the controversies, of mining and industry.  Learn about the impact of mining on our daily lives.

Prominent Exhibits at WMMI include:

  • What’s Mined is Yours Mineral Display
  • Walk-Through Mine Drift (built with the Colorado School of Mines)
  • Interactive Mining in America Exhibit
  • Colorado's largest collection of Fluorescent Minerals
  • Chilean Miners Rescue Pod Display
  • 1895 Corliss Steam Engine and other WORKING machines

Outside, museum visitors can inspect two historic mining headframes and machines including a 1920s Osgood Steam Shovel and an 1840s-era Cornish Walking Beam Engine. The working blacksmith shop and 10-stamp ore mill are open during special events or by appointment only.
