X-WR-CALDESC:This talk asks: how are these transitions experienced by minin
g communities? Using insights from research in Western Colorado and Centra
l Appalachia\, Dr. Harris will discuss the shifting reality of mines in th
is emerging framework. \n\nDylan M. Harris is an assistant professor of ge
ography and environmental studies at the University of Colorado Colorado S
prings (UCCS). His work focuses on the stories we tell (and don’t tell) ab
out socioecological change\, focusing specifically on the procedural eleme
nts of climate and energy justice. He is interested in work that exists at
the intersection of change\, drawing from what he terms experimental and
speculative political ecology to critically study the unequal power struct
ures informing many “transition” projects (e.g.\, carbon offsets) while al
so aiming to disrupt them\, pointing towards more equitable possibilities\
 , through interventionist research.
